Where to eat in Crested Butte and lodging options

Crested Butte offers a variety of dining options for you to enjoy. Some popular restaurants in the area include the Sunflower, Elk Ave Prime, Secret Stash, Ginger Cafe, Teocali Tamale, Ryce Asian Bistro, the Public House, and some new options including The Hideout. Whether you’re in the mood for American cuisine, Italian dishes, or a cozy café experience, Downtown Crested Butte has something for every palate. There are also a handful of options at the base of the hill for lunch like the Bar Above, CB Burger Company, and great coffee at the Coffee Lab. On-mountain options include Paradise Warming House, Uley’s Cabin & Ice Bar, and the Umbrella Bar.

Lodging Options

Anchored by three full-service hotels: Grand Lodge, Lodge at Mountaineer Square, and the Elevation Hotel & Spa, the base village at Mt. Crested Butte is where the vast majority of the lodging is located. In addition to these signature hotels, a variety of condominium properties frame the base of mountain with many offering either ski-in/ski-out access to the slopes or located within a short walk. Several condominium and townhome complexes are within a three minute shuttle of the lifts in the base area, and these properties typically offer the most economical options. Ranging in quality and size with price points to meet most every budget, the lodging offerings in the base village are mostly fully equipped with all of the comforts of home allowing vacationers to prepare meals in your accommodations if you so choose. While the vast majority of the accommodations are comfortably appointed moderate to upper moderate rated condos, there are many luxury lodging options and some private residences in the base area for those who appreciate more refined accommodations.

Town / Base Village

Small town meets big mountain in Crested Butte. Separated by a two mile road, Mt. Crested Butte and downtown Crested Butte combine to offer a complete vacation experience. Most visitors to Crested Butte stay at the base of the mountain, play on the mountain, and party in town with free shuttle service providing convenient transport between the two. All of the skier services are in the base village as well as a number of shops, restaurants offering casual fare for all meals throughout the day, and several rocking apres bars.

It might be small, but downtown Crested Butte is mighty and packs a lot into its half mile long “Main Street”, Elk Avenue. Featuring a collection of fun and unique shops, museums, galleries, and night spots, Elk Ave. is also home to an array of exceptional dining establishments with tastes from around the world including American, Italian, Thai, Japanese, Mexican, French, and more. It is hard to believe that in a small town like Crested Butte you have your choice from three sushi restaurants and six pizza places (do not miss the iconic Secret Stash), can experience a rum distillery and an upscale wine bar, and enjoy incredible artists playing live music nightly.

The Mountain

Contrary to popular belief, Crested Butte is comprised of primarily beginner and intermediate terrain on its 1,547 acres serviced by 15 lifts. Of the 121 trails, 27% are dedicated to “Beginners”, 57% is rated “Intermediate”, and 16% is “Advanced”. Boasting an average of 25+ feet of snow a year and a vertical drop of 3,062 feet from its absolute peak, Mt. Crested Butte is a stage set for snow-filled,exhausting,and ultimately rewarding days of fun. Interspersed throughout the mountain are long and challenging intermediate trails that are wide open and meticulously groomed. An entire area for beginners is located mid-mountain with easy access to and from the base village making the experience comfortable for those just learning. Black Diamond tree and bump runs intermingle with the blues and greens allowing for skiers and snowboarders of varying abilities to explore terrain that suits their skills and then meet up at the lift to take the ride up the mountain together. Atop the mountain, skiers right and skiers left are where the experts in the group will find utter bliss with some of the most challenging double black diamond open bowls, chutes, and glades to be found anywhere. Legendary areas like The Headwall, Banana, Teocalli Bowl, and The North Face will leave the legs burning, the face with a painted-on grin, and the soul fulfilled.
