Where to eat in Whitefish

Today Whitefish, Montana is a vibrant town that welcomes visitors who rub elbows with friendly locals at its coffee shops, bars, and boutiques. Local eateries vary from casual to elegant, many serving locally-harvested ingredients from the Flathead Valley’s bountiful farms. The Whitefish Farmers Market brings everyone together every Tuesday night from late May through September where local farmers and artisans offer a bounty of goods. On any given summer evening, Whitefish is lively with pedestrians strolling to its locally-owned breweries, distilleries, bars, or the ever-popular Sweet Peaks ice cream shop.

Whitefish Town / Base Village

Where small town charm meets world-class hospitality. Whitefish, Montana was incorporated in 1905, a year after the arrival of the Great Northern Railway. Hard working railroad employees, loggers and miners supported the establishment of bars, restaurants and shops along Central Avenue and its cross streets in buildings that still stand today. From the 1927 Tudor Revival train depot at the north of downtown to the first brick building, more than a century old, that houses Great Northern Cycle & Ski at the south end. Whitefish is brimming with charm and character.

The Whitefish Vibe

Since 1947 we have been about good times, great people, and deep snow. Whitefish is a place where people come to escape the city, and crowded slopes. A place where locals welcome out-of-town visitors as they do their own neighbors. Here skiing is more than great terrain and snow, it’s also about making sure everyone has a good time. It comes naturally here. In a world of merging resorts and passes for the masses, we are very content to remain blissfully independent. We believe in a commitment to character. Preserving our mountain, our town and all the colorful characters, who make this an easy-going place where you can be yourself, because here: character is encouraged.

The Mountain

Whitefish Mountain Resort is a skiing and snowboarding paradise with 113 named trails spanning roughly 3,000 acres of varied terrain on all aspects of Big Mountain.

In addition to the groomed runs, we have four terrain parks, a skier/boardercross course and vast expanses of bowls and glades that make for world-renowned tree skiing. Partially located on the Flathead National Forest, the resort operates 11 chairlifts as well as a T-bar and a conveyor carpet for beginners.

The mountain receives nearly 300 inches of snow in an average year. With a summit elevation of 6,817 feet and a base elevation of 4,464 feet, guests can descend a total of 2,353 vertical feet — nearly half a mile — down the south-facing slopes.

Our longest run is Hell Fire, an intermediate trail stretching 2.52 miles through the Hellroaring Basin, and our biggest lift is the six-seater Snow Ghost Express, which rises 2,224 vertical feet from the Base Lodge area to the top of Inspiration Ridge.
