I LOVE me some Breckenridge! Not just because it is only 15 minutes from my door. This is a massive mountain with the highest lift in North America that lets off at 12,840 feet, the Imperial Express Superchair, 2,908 acres of terrain, and 187 ski trails spread over 4 distinctive mountain peaks. This mountain has it all and will put smiles on the faces of the most experienced skiers and boarders seeking thrilling steeps, expansive open bowls, and powder-filled trees. Beginners will find some of the most accommodating terrain off of Peak 9’s Quicksilver lift on very long and gradually angled, immaculately groomed trails. Intermediate skiers will not be able to cover all of the fun and challenging terrain designated to those working on building upon their skills. And there are several terrain parks for skiers and boarders who want to play!

My Breckenridge plan of action, especially on one of the many powder days the mountain touts, usually begins at the base of Peak 8 where I ride the Rocky Mountain Superchair and head right over to the T-Bar. From the top of the T-Bar I might head down Horseshoe Bowl, finding my best line on skiers left where the wind tends to cause the snow to stack up or right down the middle of this steep, typically powder-filled open bowl. If the conditions are really good and the timing is right, I might ski over to the Imperial Chair from the top of T-Bar and head into Whale’s Tail which is some of the best terrain any mountain can offer...an expansive, above tree-line bowl with endless challenging turns. Once I get to the bottom, I wipe all of the powder from my body, and repeat it all over again.

P.S. That's not really Jeff slaying the powder... but I bet you that's what he sees in his mind's eye... what about you? What's your ideal Breckenrige Ski Day??
